Is your dog microchipped? From the 6th April 2016 it will be a legal requirement in England and Wales to microchip your dog and to keep your details up to date.
Police and local authorities will be issued with microchip readers that would allow them to instantly check whether your dog is microchipped or not. Owners are given a 21 day notice to microchip their dog and those who will not comply with the law will be issued a £500 fine and potential criminal prosecution.
Many pets get lost every year and without a microchip it is very hard to locate their owner.
Dogs, cats, rabbits and horses can all be microchipped. It is a very quick procedure and it is placed under the skin of your pet. Keep in mind that microchipping is only effective when the details are kept up to date especially when moving house or changing contact details.
Dogs can be microchipped over the age of eight weeks and cats can be microchipped over 10 -12 weeks depending on breed. It is not an expensive procedure and most vets charge around £15.00.
So, hurry! Get your pets microchipped before it's too late.
** Every animal adopted from the RSPCA will already be microchipped, vaccinated and neutered.**
